The head of the Ministry of Energy Mirzamakhmudov announced his readiness to buy Afghan coal and oil.
Uzbekistan and Afghanistan have extended the agreement on electricity supplies until 2024, the press service of the Afghan energy company DABS reports.
On December 14, representatives of National Electric Networks and the Afghan energy company DABS discussed the issue of supplying electricity from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan. The President of DABS spoke about the reduction of electricity tariffs, the solution to visa problems for company employees and theproject construction of the Surkhan-Puli-Khumri power transmission line.
The Afghan side asked Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov to solve infrastructure problems in the energy sector and increase the volume of electricity supplies, as households, entrepreneurs and government institutions in the country are faced with electricity shortages.
Mirzamakhmudov noted that there are technical problems with energy supply in Uzbekistan. However, he assured that after the three power facilities are repaired, electricity supply will be restored.
He said that the republic buys electricity from Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan at a higher price, and electricity is produced using gas and oil, which increases the cost.
The head of the Ministry of Energy also expressed his readiness to buy coal and oil from Afghanistan.
