Azerbaijani MP demands Russia to apologize for plane crash

Rasim Musabekov, a member of the Azerbaijani Parliament, has called on Russia to issue an apology for the crash of an Embraer E190AR aircraft belonging to Azerbaijan Airlines, which was en route from Baku to Grozny.

Musabekov stated that the plane was shot down over Russian territory, specifically over the skies of Grozny, and this fact cannot be denied. He emphasized that those responsible must face criminal charges and provide compensation. Otherwise, bilateral relations between the two countries could deteriorate.

The parliamentarian also pointed out that Russian media efforts to cover up the incident are improper. Musabekov, who has served four terms in the Azerbaijani parliament, is a member of the Committee on International Relations and Inter-Parliamentary Affairs, and he also represents Azerbaijan in the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS. Additionally, he is a member of the editorial board of an analytical journal published by the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Azerbaijan.

Earlier, several Telegram channels and media outlets drew attention to damage on the aircraft’s fuselage, which appeared to be consistent with marks from shrapnel or fragments. This led to speculation that the damage might have been caused by a surface-to-air missile.

However, Maulen Ashimbayev, Chairman of the Senate of Kazakhstan, dismissed the possibility of a missile strike on the plane, calling such reports “speculation.”

For context, the passenger aircraft of Azerbaijan Airlines crashed at Aktau Airport in Kazakhstan. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, there were 62 passengers and five crew members on board.
