Botir Tursunov appointed Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization
Botir Tursunov has been appointed as the Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Prior to this, he served as the counselor and envoy at Uzbekistan's embassy in China and as the permanent representative at the SCO Secretariat.
The diplomat, aged 50, is a graduate of the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies (now the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies) and the Institute of Philosophy and Law at the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, named after I. Muminov.
Since 2005, Tursunov has held various positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, working in both the central office and at Uzbekistan’s embassy in Beijing. He has also served as the Director of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President and as the Deputy Director of the Central Asia International Institute.
From 2023, he has served as the Counselor and Envoy at Uzbekistan’s embassy in China, as well as the Permanent Representative to the SCO Secretariat.
