UAE’s Tadweer Group to launch waste-to-energy project in Bukhara
During the ongoing "Abu Dhabi Sustainable Development Week" international summit in the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and the UAE signed a contract to implement projects that will generate electricity through the thermal processing of waste, with funding from foreign investments.
Agreements have been reached between Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, the Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade, the Ministry of Energy, and the UAE’s major company, Tadweer Group, to move forward with the project.
It is important to note that earlier, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was introduced to projects focused on waste recycling and the production of electricity and products from waste, emphasizing their significant social impact.
For reference, according to the Tadweer Group project, a waste incineration plant will be constructed on 10 hectares of land in Bukhara region, with a total investment of $200 million. The plant will process 1,500 tons of waste daily. Construction is set to begin in 2025, and the facility, designed to generate electricity from the incineration of solid household waste for both Bukhara and Navoi regions, is scheduled to begin operations in 2027.
This project will annually process 547,500 tons of waste using thermal methods, reducing its environmental impact, while generating 363 million kWh of electricity. Waste landfill sites will be reduced by 50%, and 21,000 households will be supplied with electricity. Additionally, 150 new jobs will be created, and 350 qualified specialists will be trained annually.
