Discount or deception: Passengers question fairness as Uzbekistan Airways raises ticket prices on promotion day

On January 28, Uzbekistan Airways announced a 30% discount on tickets for just one day to celebrate its 33rd anniversary. However, today ticket prices surged, sparking widespread complaints from passengers, who expressed frustration that prices had increased as soon as the discount period began. This prompted a response from the airline's officials.

Shukhrat Khudaykulov, Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Airways, responded to public frustrations.

"Ticket prices fluctuate based on market conditions and demand. For example, the lowest fare might be $200, while the highest could be $400. However, we do not sell the lowest-priced tickets at $200.

To clarify further: each flight offers multiple fare classes. Once certain classes sell out, only more expensive options remain. This means Uzbekistan Airways is not intentionally removing cheaper classes to sell higher-priced ones. This is simply how the market operates, and everyone has the right to adjust prices accordingly," Khudaykulov stated.
