Since the start of Russia’s large-scale invasion, Ukraine has captured nearly 30 citizens from Central Asian countries, as reported by Ukrainian Justice Minister Olha Stefanishyna.
"Information regarding the citizenship of prisoners of war is often based on their statements, as there are frequently no documents to confirm this," Stefanishyna explained.
"Regardless of the citizenship of prisoners of war held in prisons and camps, they are entitled to the same legal status, as established by both international and national legal frameworks. The citizenship of a prisoner of war, including dual citizenship, does not affect their legal status," the Ministry added.
The report did not specify which countries the prisoners of war are from.
