Uzbekistan’s renewable energy output hits record high, surpassing 2024 total

The share of green energy, including hydropower, has exceeded 20% in the first half of 2025.

Since the beginning of the year, Uzbekistan’s solar and wind power plants have produced over 5 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity — surpassing the total renewable energy output for the entire year of 2024, according to the Ministry of Energy.

A new record was set on July 6. In the 26 days prior — from June 10 to July 6 — renewable energy facilities supplied approximately 1 billion kWh to the national power grid.

The bulk of this output came from 11 operating solar power plants, which together generated 3.125 billion kWh. Additionally, four wind farms contributed another 1.915 billion kWh to the network.

The ministry noted that the use of renewable energy helped save more than 1.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas and prevented the emission of 2.22 million tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

As of 8:00 AM on July 7, total green energy generation — combining solar, wind, and hydropower — reached 8.73 billion kWh, accounting for 20.3% of Uzbekistan’s total electricity production in 2025.

According to ministry estimates, this volume is sufficient to cover the average six-month electricity consumption of 7.28 million households. It also allowed the country to preserve 2.64 billion cubic meters of gas and avoid 3.88 million tons of air pollution.
