Uzbekistan to abolish minimum export prices for fruits and vegetables

According to a presidential decree, the practice of setting minimum export prices for fruit and vegetable products will be discontinued. The system, introduced last year, had been criticized by analysts as a “blow to fruit and vegetable exports.” Minimum export prices will, however, remain in place for the other three categories of goods.

The abolition of minimum export prices for fruits and vegetables in Uzbekistan was formalized in presidential decree No. 181, signed on October 8.

The document does not specify the exact date when the regulation will cease to apply.

The system of setting minimum export prices for fruits and vegetables, as well as for textile, leather–footwear, and electrical products, was introduced in 2024. Analysts at the time called the measure “a blow to fruit and vegetable exports.”

Under the October 8 decree, entrepreneurs who purchase machinery for harvesting leguminous crops will be reimbursed for 15% of the equipment’s cost, as well as the portion of leasing or credit interest rates exceeding 10%.

The document also stipulates that natural gas must be supplied to greenhouse farms on a guaranteed basis and grants tax benefits to greenhouse operators.
