Uzbekistan’s monthly gas imports from Russia and Turkmenistan up
Uzbekistan’s imports of natural gas from Russia and Turkmenistan reached their highest level since June, although overall deliveries in the first 10 months of the year fell by 16 percent compared to the previous year. Over the same period, gas exports to China rose by only 5.1 percent.
According to data from the National Statistics Committee, Uzbekistan imported more natural gas than it exported between January and October 2025.
Over ten months, gas imports from Turkmenistan and Russia declined by 16 percent to $1.12 billion. In January, deliveries amounted to $27.8 million before falling to $8 million in February and $2.7 million in March. Imports then rebounded to $112 million in April, $135 million in May, and $286.3 million in June.
In July, supplies fell to $162.2 million and further to $151.9 million in August, before dropping sharply to $46.4 million in September. However, in October imports rose again, reaching $190.2 million – the highest level since June.
Since the beginning of the year, gas exports to China increased by 5.1 percent, totalling $568.2 million. Monthly export figures were $21.8 million in January, $20.2 million in February, $52.3 million in March, $105.4 million in April, $88.3 million in May, and $66.9 million in June.
Exports reached 83.7 million in July, fell to $56.1 million in August, dropped to $51.5 million in September, and decreased further to $22 million in October.
However, figures from the National Statistics Committee differ slightly from data reported by China’s General Administration of Customs. Chinese customs data show that Uzbekistan exported $695.5 million worth of gas to China between January and October – an increase of 18.3 percent compared to the same period last year.
China’s customs office also reports a month-on-month decline of 5.94 percent in October gas imports from Uzbekistan, falling from $66.6 million in September to $62.6 million in October – a drop of 29.5 percent year-on-year.
Russia remains the top exporter of natural gas to China, supplying $7.85 billion worth of gas in the first ten months of the year. Turkmenistan ranks second with $7.03 billion, followed by Myanmar ($1.29 billion), Kazakhstan ($945.7 million), as well as the United States and Italy with smaller volumes.
