Sodik Safayev: Officials who grew up in the previous system do not want to let go of the reins of economic management

First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of Oliy Majlis Sadik Safayev believes that the liberalization of the country's economy should be accelerated. At the same time, he noted that there are people in power who want to maintain state control in the economic sphere.

“Officials who grew up in the previous system do not want to let go of the reins of economic management,” Safayev said at the opening of the 6th annual CAMCA Regional Forum (Central Asia-Mongolia-Caucasus-Afghanistan) in Tashkent.

The senator noted that two years ago, Uzbekistan began implementing ambitious reforms. In his opinion, the government should limit the role of the state in the economy, continue its liberalization and improve the conditions for doing business.

“The leadership of Uzbekistan has chosen a course in which there is no way back, and these reforms should be accelerated,” Safayev noted.

The ongoing reforms in the economic and political life of the country, according to Safayev, are already yielding results. The senator noted the growth of foreign investment by 13% per year, with the economy growing 5% a year. In addition, significant changes occurred in the government of the country. Young, active graduates of leading Uzbek and world universities joined its structure, the politician added.
