MFA comments on the Taliban delegation visit to Tashkent

On August 8, the Foreign Ministry held a meeting with representatives of the Taliban movement, led by its leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the ministerial press service reports.

During the meeting, issues related to the promotion of the peaceful political process in Afghanistan with a view to establishing a sustainable and long-term peace in the country were discussed.

“Mullah Baradar expressed sincere gratitude to the leadership of Uzbekistan for their constant attention to Afghanistan and emphasized that thanks to the efforts of Uzbekistan, the Afghan problem has again become the focus of attention of the world community,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.

It should be noted that the head of the Taliban movement supported the proposal to hold the next round of inter-Afghan dialogue in Samarkand. He stressed its timeliness and relevance in the light of the current realities in Afghanistan and expressed gratitude for the willingness to create necessary conditions for this meeting.

During the negotiations, the right of the Afghan people to decide their own destiny and build their future was once again emphasized.
