Cabinet of Ministers building in Tashkent to be listed as a cultural heritage site

The building of the Cabinet of Ministers, located on Mustaqillik Maydoni Street in Tashkent, is expected to be added to Uzbekistan’s official register of cultural heritage sites.

A draft resolution prepared by the Cultural Heritage Agency proposes amendments and additions to the National Register of Immovable Tangible Cultural Heritage. According to the proposal, the Cabinet of Ministers building on Mustaqillik Maydoni Street will be included in the updated list.

The plan also includes the addition of nearly 130 other sites to the register. Among them are mosques, museums, and residential buildings. Notable examples include several houses on Shota Rustaveli and Beshyoghoch streets in Tashkent, the building of the Institute of Art Studies, and the architectural complex of the Republican Specialized Art School named after Pavel Benkov.

The goal of this initiative is to ensure state oversight of the protection, preservation, and proper use of Uzbekistan’s tangible cultural heritage – considered a national treasure. It also aims to regulate the status of heritage sites, compile their official listing, preserve their historical value, and create conditions to enhance their cultural significance.
