Tashkent to introduce an automated fare payment system from January 1

The Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution “On implementation of an automated fare payment system for transportation of passengers in public transport”.
According to the document, an automated fare payment system for transporting passengers in public transport will be carried out in stages:
- starting from January 1, 2020 – in some directions when providing services for transportation of passengers of the Toshshakhartranskhizmat JSC and “Toshkent metropoliteni” unitary enterprise in the city of Tashkent;
- starting from August 1, 2020 – when providing services for transportation of passengers in the city of Nukus and regional centers;
- starting from January 1, 2021 – when providing services for transportation of passengers throughout the republic.
The document says that the personalization of preferential transport cards for certain categories of citizens and the sale of cards at cost will be carried out through the centers of state services.
Connection of legal entities that provide transport services to the population with an automated system will be reflected in tender agreements giving the right to provide passenger transportation services.
In addition, a tariff setting procedure for an automated system will be developed. It will include such issues as the possibility of using several transports or types of transport with one payment, the introduction of tariff plans based on the time and distance on the line.
