OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities to visit Uzbekistan in 2022
In Vienna, Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the Organization for Security and Cooperation (OSCE), Ambassador Abat Fayzullayev met with the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities (HCNM) Kayrat Abdrakhmanov, Dunyo IA reported.
During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on the current state and prospects for the development of relations between Uzbekistan and the HCNM Office, as well as upcoming joint events for 2022 were discussed.
It was noted that in recent years, close working contacts have been established between the OSCE HCNM and Uzbekistan, and the parties have successfully carried out a number of events both at the national and regional levels, dedicated to the thematic recommendations of the HCNM.
In particular, the High Commissioner noted the successful holding in July 2021 of an online roundtable on the topic “Graz Recommendations on Access to Justice and National Minorities in Uzbekistan” in cooperation with the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan and the National Center for Human Rights of Uzbekistan. In connection with this event, the HCNM Office also translated and disseminated the “Graz Recommendations” and the “Ljubljana Guidelines on Integration of Diverse Societies” into Uzbek.
The parties agreed that the HCNM Office will continue this positive practice and in 2022, together with the Uzbek side, will hold a series of similar events in various cities of Uzbekistan. In order to give a new impetus to bilateral cooperation, Kayrat Abdrakhmanov announced his readiness to visit Uzbekistan in 2022.
