Foreign national detained at Urgench Airport for attempting to smuggle ancient coins
Customs officials at Urgench Airport have detained a foreign national attempting to illegally export eight ancient coins, dating from 1870 to 1970.

The smuggling attempt was thwarted through cooperation between the regional customs office and the State Security Service (SSS).
Under the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On the Export and Import of Cultural Property", the export of cultural items that are 50 years or older is strictly prohibited.
Authorities have initiated a preliminary investigation into the incident to determine further legal action.
