Uzbekistan to continue supplying electricity to Afghanistan in 2025
Afghanistan's state energy company, DABS, has extended its electricity import agreement with Uzbekistan until the end of 2025.
The Taliban-led government in Afghanistan signed agreements in 2025 for electricity supply with Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan.
On December 17, Afghanistan's state energy company, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), announced the extension of its electricity import agreement with Uzbekistan until the end of 2025. The agreement was signed in Uzbekistan by DABS Chief Executive Officer Abdul Bari Omar and Jakhongir Obidjonov, Chairman of the Board of Uzenergosotish JSC.
The volume, price, and other details of the agreement have not been disclosed.
At the end of November, the Taliban government also reached an agreement with Tajikistan, and on December 7, it signed a deal with Turkmenistan for electricity supply.
According to statistical data from Afghanistan's Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, the country’s electricity demand is 1,500 MW. Of this, around 720 MW is imported, while the remainder is generated domestically.
