First day of 2025 sees 1,641 births in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan recorded the birth of 1,641 babies on the first day of 2025, marking the lowest figure in eight years, according to the Ministry of Health.

This year’s total is a significant decrease compared to previous years. On January 1 of 2018, 1,961 newborns were recorded; in 2019, 1,708; in 2020, 1,974; in 2021, 1,644; in 2022, 2,316; in 2023, 2,155; and in 2024, 1,859.

Of the babies born in 2025, 845 are girls and 796 are boys.

 Regional statistics

Fergana region saw the highest number of births with 244 babies, followed by:

  • Samarkand: 186 newborns
  • Kashkadarya: 181 newborns
  • Surkhandarya: 172 newborns
  • Tashkent region: 150 newborns
  • Tashkent city: 139 newborns
  • Andijan: 90 newborns
  • Jizzakh: 87 newborns
  • Bukhara: 86 newborns
  • Khorezm: 83 newborns
  • Karakalpakstan: 71 newborns
  • Namangan: 65 newborns
  • Syrdarya: 45 newborns
  • Navoi: 42 newborns

Multiple births highlighted

The Ministry of Health also noted that the new year’s first day witnessed the birth of 23 sets of twins (44 babies) and one set of triplets (3 babies).
