Uzbekistan to provide 2.25 million UZS aid to released inmates starting May
Individuals released from correctional facilities will receive a one-time financial aid of 2.25 million UZS (six times the base calculation unit) through "Inson" social service centers, starting May 1, 2025.

This initiative stems from a newly adopted presidential decree on "Improving the Procedures for Financing the Social Protection System of the Population."
Additionally, according to the decree, from April 1, 2025, social assistance provided through the "Social Registers" funds will be allocated to families included in the Poverty Registry. Social assistance for improving housing conditions and healthcare will also be provided to families whose monthly income per family member does not exceed twice the minimum consumer spending level.
It is worth noting that in late October 2024, the director of the National Center for Human Rights, Akmal Saidov, stated that the number of prisoners serving sentences in Uzbekistan’s correctional facilities is 68 per 100,000 people. "This is the lowest rate among the member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States," he said.
In early February of this year, it was also reported that prisoners in Uzbekistan could reduce their sentence by up to three days if they read a book from an approved list and pass a designated exam.
