Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan finalize tri-border point agreement

Members of the Legislative Chamber have passed a bill ratifying the treaty on the point where the borders of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan meet. The document has been sent to the Senate for consideration.

The treaty was signed on March 31, 2025, in the city of Khujand during a high-level meeting between Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Emomali Rahmon and Sadyr Japarov. The agreement defines the exact location of the tri-border point as well as the delineation of the state borders within that area. Following the negotiations, the presidents jointly inaugurated the Friendship Stele at the site via video link.

As noted during the October 28 session, the treaty will contribute to strengthening good-neighborly relations, trust and strategic partnership among the three fraternal nations, and enhance the international standing of the entire Central Asian region.

“The resolution of border issues between the three countries is the result of years of hard work, sincere dialogue and cooperation based on the principles of mutual respect, sovereignty and equality. This treaty also plays an important role in fostering closer regional integration,” the lower house of parliament said in a statement.

The agreement is also expected to provide a solid legal foundation for expanding ties among citizens of the three states, boosting economic cooperation in border areas, increasing cross-border trade, jointly implementing infrastructure projects, and creating new jobs in the region.
