President Mirziyoyev orders uninterrupted gas supply to greenhouses in Tashkent and suburbs
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree introducing urgent measures to improve the environmental situation in Tashkent.
According to the decree, the Ministry of Energy has been instructed to sign gas supply agreements with every greenhouse in Tashkent and the surrounding areas within a week and to ensure an uninterrupted supply of natural gas.
The National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change has been tasked with drafting a law within a week to increase fines for malfunctions or the absence of dust and gas purification systems in greenhouses larger than 200 sq. m. For employees of legal entities, fines will increase fivefold, and for individuals, threefold.
Another draft law targets the use of combustible substances, materials, and waste in greenhouses over 200 sq. m, including tires, bitumen, fuel oil, used motor oil films, rubber, and wool fibers. The decree stipulates that criminal liability will be imposed, including the confiscation of heating boilers, if such materials are found being burned.
The decree also establishes a special commission chaired by Aziz Abduhakimov, head of the Committee for Ecology. The commission has the authority to temporarily or permanently halt the operation of greenhouses and other enterprises negatively affecting air quality.
