Abdulaziz Kamilov meets with Federica Mogherini in Bishkek

On July 7, 2019, Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov, who attends the EU-Central Asia Ministerial meeting, met in Bishkek with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini, the press service of the MFA said.

At the meeting, the current state of Uzbekistan – EU relations and prospects for their further development were discussed.

The parties highly appreciated the results of the EC President Donald Tusk’s visit to Uzbekistan and his negotiations with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on May 31, 2019 in Tashkent.

As it was noted, Uzbekistan – EU relations have reached a qualitatively new level in recent years and have been filled with concrete practical content in all areas of cooperation. In this context, the parties welcomed the launching of mechanism of negotiations on draft Agreement on enhanced partnership and cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union, the signing of which should become a milestone in bilateral relations.

Introduction of a visa-free regime for citizens of all EU countries by Uzbekistan this year stimulates people’s diplomacy, strengthens contacts in trade-economic, investment, cultural-humanitarian and other areas.

In addition to bilateral relations, the sides exchanged views on the Afghan issue and expressed interest in intensifying cooperation in this direction.
