“Smart meters will be installed free of charge for all consumers” – Khududgaztaminot

As Khududgaztaminot JSC reported, 70% of gas consumers in the domestic sector have been installed gas meters. Most of these equipment has been in use for more than 10 years, and almost every second of the meter shows that it is in need of major repairs or special maintenance. 

It should be recalled that on July 9, 2019, the presidential decree “On measures to ensure the stable provision of the population and economy with energy resources, financial rehabilitation of oil and gas industry and improvement of its management system” was adopted. The document provides for the introduction of an automated gas control system for all segments of consumers by 2022.

As experts stated, gas meters were previously owned by consumers and now they are transferred to the balance of the gas supply company. 

According to the new rule, smart meters will be installed for all categories of consumers at the expense of Khududgaztaminot JSC. This means that the meters will become the property of the JSC’s regional subdivisions. Consumers will no longer have to appeal to the State Service Center and the Single portal. In short, all services and costs (installation, removal, inspection and repair) in relation to gas meters will be covered by the gas supplying company. The consumer will solely be responsible for maintaining the meter.
