Women block the road in Nukus demanding their wages
They did not receive salaries (591 million soums) for public works during the lockdown.
On the morning of December 17, women blocked a road in the center of Nukus as they did not receive their salaries for public works they were involved in during the summer lockdown.
After a desperate attempt, women finally got the attention of the khokimiyat.
According to the press service, the Minister of Interior of Karakalpakstan, khokim of Nukus and the Minister of Employment and Labor Relations visited the scene of the incident to address the issue.
The women claimed that they had been hired during the lockdown period under a contract, but had not been paid their salary. Officials said the money will be paid today and those responsible for the incident will be held accountable before the law.
