Uzbekistan establishes criminal liability for obstructing professional activities of journalists

The draft Criminal Code, published by the Prosecutor General’s Office in a new edition, provides for criminal liability for obstruction of journalists’ professional activities.

Article 184 of the draft Code provides for criminal liability for intimidating a journalist or his close relatives by using official power in order to obstruct the journalist’s lawful activities, that is, to force him to disseminate or not to disseminate information.

These actions are punishable by a fine of 50 to 100 BCAs or a restriction of liberty for up to 3 years or imprisonment for up to 3 years.
