Uzbekistan, Iran to deepen bilateral cooperation 

On March 8, 2021, Tehran hosted the sixth round of political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Uzbekistan and Iran.

The delegations of the parties were headed by Deputy FM of Uzbekistan Furkat Sidikov and Deputy FM of Iran Abbas Araghchi.

The sides discussed the current state of bilateral relations and prospects for their development in various formats, and also exchanged views on certain international and regional issues. It was emphasized that Uzbekistan and Iran have significant potential for further strengthening the bilateral cooperation.

Proposals on the schedule and agenda of upcoming joint events at various levels and formats, in particular, the 14th meeting of the Uzbek-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, were considered.

Mutual interest was expressed in deepening trade-economic, investment, transport and communication ties.

The parties noted the emerging positive trends in the development of interstate relations, including within the framework of the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Economic Cooperation Organization.

The head of the delegation of Uzbekistan invited the Iranian side to the International high-level conference “Central Asia and South Asia: Regional Connectivity. Challenges and Opportunities”, which will be held this year in Tashkent.

Within the framework of the consultations, other issues of the general agenda were also considered.
