Uzbekistan to plant 200 million saplings a year to increase green spaces in cities
From now on, the deputy khokim for construction will be responsible for ecology, tree planting and maintenance.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in a videoconference dedicated to the implementation of the national project “Green Space” to improve the environmental situation and clean air in cities, district centers and settlements, announced that an “actual 40-day” tree planting campaign would be announced by December 10.
“In order to improve the environmental situation and clean air in cities, district centers and settlements, we are launching a nationwide project “Green Space”.
Under this project, we plan to plant 200 million saplings of trees and shrubs per year, thereby increasing the green space in cities from the current 8% to 30%.
At the same time, the necessary organizational measures, equipment, irrigation and other infrastructure, tree care and financial resources for the project will be addressed,” Kun.uz correspondent quoted the President as saying.
A new organizational system will be introduced for the implementation of this nationwide project.
“Every organization, every citizen must contribute to this project. In order to properly organize this planting work, first of all, the owner of the existing and newly created green areas will be determined by the decision of the district (city) khokim.
Attached officials are responsible not only for the maintenance of existing trees, but also for keeping the area in good condition.
To this end, an “actual 40-day” tree planting campaign will be announced from today until December 10,” the head of state said.
