Uzbekistan, South Korea discuss issues of cooperation in transport sector 

The Embassy of Uzbekistan in South Korea organized negotiations via videoconferencing between the Director of the Department of Foreign Projects of the South Korean Corporation “Korea Expressway Corporation” (KEC) Kwon Bong Kyung and senior representatives of the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan.

During online negotiations, the parties discussed the practical implementation of the measures provided for by the Memorandum, which was signed following the visit of the Uzbek delegation to the Republic of Korea, headed by the Deputy Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Abdusamat Muminov on April 11-15.

At the meeting, Kwon Bong Kyung informed about the decision taken by the KEC leadership to send a delegation of three employees of the corporation to Uzbekistan in the period up to May 24. During this visit, it is planned to organize meetings with the leadership of the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan to discuss the implementation of practical measures provided for under the signed MoU. It is also planned to study the prospects for the participation of the South Korean side in the implementation of projects for the construction of the Tashkent-Andijan and Tashkent-Samarkand highways on the basis of public-private partnership (PPP) with on-site visits.

He also emphasized the great interest of the South Korean side in participating in the implementation of investment projects in Uzbekistan in the field of transport infrastructure based on PPP. Kwon Bong Kyung expressed his readiness to consider promising projects for their further joint implementation, including by attracting funds from the Official Development Assistance (ODA) of the South Korean government and the Korea International Cooperation Agency.

The South Korean side also informed about the receipt of an invitation to the upcoming International Round Table on PPP, scheduled in Tashkent on May 20 this year. Given the interest in strengthening bilateral relations, representatives of the KEC Corporation expressed their readiness to take part in this event.

Following the videoconference meeting, it was decided to prepare and agree on the program for the visit of the South Korean delegation to Uzbekistan, taking into account the planned joint events and projects.
