Mirziyoyev proposes not to amend Constitution regarding the sovereignty of Karakalpakstan
Today, July 2, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Nukus.
According to press secretary Sherzod Asadov, the head of state held a meeting with deputies of the Jokargy Kenes, representatives of the elder generation and activists of Karakalpakstan.
Taking into account the fact that the process of discussing amendments and additions to the Constitution is still ongoing, as well as based on the study of opinions expressed by the residents of Karakalpakstan, the President outlined the need to maintain unchanged the current versions of Articles 70, 71, 72, 74, 75 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Earlier, it was reported that on June 1 in Nukus, some citizens arranged unscheduled marches around Nukus. Later, they gathered on the territory of the central dekhkan market and organized an illegal demonstration.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan, on July 1 this year, at about 15:00, some citizens of Karakalpakstan, as a result of a misinterpretation of the constitutional reforms being carried out in the republic, gathered on the territory of the central dekhkan market and organized an illegal demonstration.
In order to prevent violations of public order and prevent the commission of various offenses by citizens, the forces and means of law enforcement agencies were involved in the territory of the dekhkan market.
Today, July 2, the authorities of Karakalpakstan issued an official statement regarding the events in Nukus.
