Uzbekistan intends to complete main negotiations on WTO accession by end of 2023

On December 28, under the chairmanship of the Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade, Jamshid Khodjayev, a regular meeting of the interdepartmental commission for work with the World Trade Organization (WTO) was held.

During the meeting, the results of the work carried out in 2022 were summed up and the main tasks for 2023 were identified as part of WTO accession in the context of the ministries and departments involved.

The importance of taking comprehensive measures to complete all the main negotiations on joining the organization by the end of 2023, as well as to accelerate work on harmonizing national legislation with the rules and regulations of the WTO and introducing new standards, was especially noted.

During the meeting, the current status of the republic’s accession to the WTO and issues of preparation for organizing the sixth meeting of the working group on Uzbekistan’s accession to the organization were also discussed. It was announced that by now the WTO member countries have received all the necessary documents to organize the planned negotiations. In addition, bilateral negotiations are ongoing with WTO member countries and consultations with the organization’s secretariat for the timely implementation of previously reached agreements.

Based on the results of the analysis, the members of the interdepartmental commission were given specific instructions on comprehensive preparation for the sixth meeting of the working group, ensuring the timely implementation of all tasks and improving the quality of the documents being prepared. Also, the heads of relevant ministries and departments were instructed to develop individual plans for the preparation of all necessary documents and the completion of bilateral negotiations with WTO member countries with specific deadlines.

Following the meeting, an instruction was given to hold regular meetings and meetings with the participation of relevant heads of ministries and departments in order to coordinate work on the timely organization of meetings of the working group on Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO and bilateral negotiations with member countries of the organization.
