Biden ready to help Ukraine as much as it needs
On February 20, US President Joe Biden made a surprise visit to Kyiv. Biden arrived on the eve of the one-year anniversary of the Russian invasion and said that the United States would provide “as much as necessary” assistance to Ukraine. Although the Kremlin has not yet given an official response, Russian propaganda has already begun writing about Putin’s displeasure with the visit. Kun.uz correpondent spoke with political analyst Kamoliddin Rabbimov about Biden’s visit to Kyiv and the events surrounding the war.
- The world press calls this visit unexpected and very important. Is it really so?
- The arrival of the American presidents to the war zone means that the attention given to this situation or region in the state policy is at its peak. Biden highly emphasizes US support in Ukraine. A few days ago, at a major security summit in Germany, Russia’s war in Ukraine was assessed as just an imperialist war.
The position of the Western countries, which had been cautious since the beginning of the war, also changed dramatically. Countries that gave only helmets a year ago now give even tanks. Before the delivery of more important weapons, the public in powerful countries is prepared for it, public opinion is formed.
- Did you pay attention to the date of the US president’s visit? Was Russia warned about the visit in general?
- The date of the visit is definitely important. In political games, this is called VA BANQUE, which means putting your political opponent at a disadvantage. This visit, before Putin addressed the Russian parliament and people, made his situation difficult. Biden’s arrival before the address is being interpreted as political and moral pressure on Russia. Russian propaganda interprets Biden’s easy arrival in Kyiv during the war as “an insult and a slap against us”.
It is possible that Russia was warned about the visit. In addition, the intelligence services will have information about such visits, usually. There may have been a formal warning. Because during Biden’s visit to Kyiv, the sky of Ukraine was declared a “no fly zone”. Russia itself is wary of provocations at such a time. Killing a head of state, either intentionally or through negligence, can lead to a very large war. Russia is not ready for this. No matter how much politicians like each other, there are certain rules of the game in politics.
