Saida Mirziyoyeva: Sexual contact with minors is now a serious crime punishable by imprisonment
The Senate of Oliy Majlis approved the bill aimed at protecting the rights of children and women. Saida Mirziyoyeva, head of the Communications and Information Policy Department of the PA Executive Office, expressed her opinion on this.

“Today, the Senate approved a bill aimed at protecting the rights of children and women. The struggle was very difficult for everyone.
If these amendments to the Criminal and Administrative Responsibility Codes come into force after the President’s signature, we will finally be able to protect women from domestic violence by holding perpetrators accountable,” Saida Mirziyoyeva said.
It is noted that sexual contact with a minor has now been transferred from the category of non-dangerous crime to a serious crime.
“We are closing loopholes for those who have had sex with minors and want to escape from prison. Now this act is punishable by long imprisonment. This is a clear signal to criminals that the state is firmly fighting against any kind of violence!
I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in the legal process and supported us. Efforts for this change have been going on for a long time and this is only the beginning of a long and difficult road.
We will change social norms, we will change ourselves as a society. In order to ensure the social security of the state, we must protect the most vulnerable,” Saida Mirziyoyeva said.
