On April 27, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the decision “On approval of the international agreement”.

With the decision, amendments are made to the agreement on mutual arrival and departure of citizens between the governments of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, signed in Tashkent on October 3, 2006.

The protocol on these changes was signed on January 27, 2023 during Mirziyoyev’s state visit to Bishkek. According to it, citizens of the two countries will be able to cross the mutual border without passports and by showing an ID card.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Border Guards of the Republic of Uzbekistan are responsible for the implementation of the decision by Uzbekistan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs sends a notification to the Kyrgyz side that the Republic of Uzbekistan has completed the internal state procedures necessary for the entry into force of this international agreement.

It is not known when the new order will come into force.

After the implementation of the simplified practice, information on the entry and exit of citizens from the border will be recorded electronically, there will be no need to stamp the passport.

It is said that this procedure applies when crossing the border by any means of transport (plane, train, car, bus, etc.).

It should be recalled that until today, the procedure of mutual travel through ID card has not been established with any country. Kyrgyzstan is the first.

Another decision of Shavkat Mirziyoyev on April 27 also approved an agreement on cooperation between the governments of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan in the field of prevention and elimination of emergency situations.

In November 2022, the presidents of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan signed agreements on the border, after which it was announced that there was no room for any disagreement between the two countries on the border issue.
