Uzbekistan exported $75.27 million worth of natural gas to China in August
According to the information of the PRC General Administration of Customs learned by Gazeta.uz, in August, Uzbekistan exported natural gas to China for $75.27 million.
As it was previously reported, in April, Uzbekistan resumed the export of natural gas, which amounted to $40.47 million in the same month. Exports increased to $78.16 million in May, $85.27 million in June, and $91.39 million in July.
Since the beginning of the year, total gas exports amounted to $370.57 million, which is 1.6 times less than the same period last year ($618.16 million). This can be explained by the fact that gas export was stopped in January-March due to the energy crisis in Uzbekistan.
If we compare the figures for one month, gas worth $112.28 million was delivered in August 2022.
According to the Statistics Agency, Uzbekistan exported gas worth $377.9 million in eight months, which is 42.1% less than the same period last year.
During the eight months, Russia exported $7.96 billion of gas and became the leader in supplying gas to China (38.5% more than in January-August 2022), Turkmenistan is in second place – $6.63 billion (+5%). followed by Indonesia – $1.7 billion (-17.8%), Myanmar – $993.9 million (+16.2%), Kazakhstan – $789.7 million (-2.1%).
Gazeta.uz previously wrote that the data on gas exports provided by Uzbekistan and China differed several times. In response to this, the Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov announced that the Chinese statistics also include Turkmenistan’s gas transit services through Uzbekistan. Gazeta.uz compared the data and found that there is a big difference even when the volume of transit is taken into account.
Earlier, the Ministry of Economy and Finance reported that 2.6 billion cubic meters of gas were imported into Uzbekistan in the first half of the year, which is 7.2 times more than in the six months of 2022. This differs from the data of the Statistics Agency and may partially explain the words of the CB head that the budget deficit has increased due to gas imports.
