Uzbekistan, Afghanistan discuss bilateral cooperation in field of railway transport
The head of Uzbekistan Railways JSC and the head of the Afghan Railways Department reached an agreement on the reconstruction of the Hairatan – Naibabad – Mazar-i-Sharif railway.

Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Railways JSC Z. Narzullayev met with the head of the Afghan Railways Department Bakht-ar-Rahman Sharafat on November 8, 2023 in the city of Hairatan, Balkh province in Afghanistan. The meeting was organized to discuss cooperation in the field of railway transport between the two countries.
The main topic of the negotiations is the reconstruction of the Hairatan – Naibabad – Mazar-i-Sharif railway; both sides are interested in its development and modernization.
As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to begin construction work on the Hairatan – Naibabad – Mazar-i-Sharif section, which will be carried out by specialists from Uzbekistan Railways JSC.
The parties hope for further cooperation and mutually beneficial partnership in the field of railway transport, which will improve the transport infrastructure of the region and create favorable conditions for the development of trade and economy in Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.
