735 cases of measles registered in Namangan since year beginning
SanEpid Committee confirmed that the number of children infected with measles has increased sharply in Namangan region. Since the beginning of the year, 735 cases of this disease have been recorded in the region, and currently 255 children under the age of three are being treated. For comparison, during 2022, only 8 cases of measles were observed throughout the republic.
The sanitary-epidemiological peace and public health committee expressed an official response to the news that the number of children infected with measles is increasing sharply in Namangan region.
It was reported that in 10 months of 2023, a total of 735 measles cases were confirmed in the laboratory.
Currently, 255 children are being treated for measles in Namangan. 62% of 255 patients are children under 1 year old, and 25% are children aged 1-3 years. 235 of them are in the regional infectious disease hospital, and 20 are in the Beshkapa Children’s Hospital. These two hospitals currently have 5 and 80 spare beds respectively.
The committee noted that the stock of diagnostics, reagents and vaccines is sufficient in the region.
In particular, 9,500 doses of measles-rubella vaccine were given to Namangan region. 1936 children were vaccinated against measles according to epidemiological guidelines. Currently, there are 310 doses of measles-rubella vaccine in the vaccination rooms of treatment and prevention institutions.
“In November, 3 million doses of measles vaccines were purchased at the expense of the state budget of the Republic of Uzbekistan. These vaccines are designed to vaccinate children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years who are in contact with a measles patient, children who are not vaccinated due to certain reasons, and those who are at risk, and are being distributed to the regions at the same time,” SanEpid Committee said in a statement.
According to statistics on the WHO website, a total of 8 cases of measles were registered in Uzbekistan in 2022.
