Uzbekistan Airways may launch flights to Canada from 2025
The governments of the two countries are beginning work on an agreement on bilateral air services.
The aviation departments of Uzbekistan and Canada discussed cooperation in the field of passenger transportation, the press service of the Ministry of Transport reported.
The meeting of delegations from both countries took place at the international conference ICAN 2023 in Riyadh. The parties agreed to mutually provide airlines with the first and second degrees of “freedom of air” (air transit, refueling and maintenance).
The issue of organizing regular air services was also touched upon. The delegations signed a memorandum to begin developing an agreement providing for the bilateral provision of third and fourth degrees of freedom.
From 2025, Uzbekistan Airways plans to begin regular flights to Canada, the Ministry of Transport noted. The memorandum signed at the meeting “creates the basis” for this.
The organization of flights will help expand transport links between Uzbekistan and the American continent. It is expected that in the future this will contribute to additional attraction of tourists.
Prior to this, Uzaviation entered into an air services agreement with Bangladesh. According to the ministry, the last time flights to this country were carried out was in 2007.
