Qatar Airways was granted permission to fly to Uzbekistan two years ago and has since made several announcements regarding the imminent launch of flights to the republic.
In November 2021, the airline had planned to start flights from January 17, 2022, but the launch was postponed indefinitely. The topic resurfaced during a conversation in June 2023 between Uzbekistan's Minister of Transport Ilkhom Makhkamov and Qatar's Ambassador to Tashkent Hassan Hamza Asad Mohammed Hashim.
Last October, the Assistant Undersecretary of Land Transport Affairs of Qatar, Hamad Essa Abdulla, indicated the upcoming start of Qatar Airways flights between the two capitals from March 2024. With the newly announced rescheduling, travelers can now look forward to the commencement of this route in early June, facilitated by a visa-free regime between the countries.
