The capacity of checkpoints on the border of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan will be increased three times, Kazinform reports.
The other day, a special working group formed from representatives of the customs and border services of the two countries discussed repair work at the Zhibek Zholy – Gishtkuprik and Kaplanbek – Navoi customs posts.
“The Kaplanbek-Navoi checkpoint, where reconstruction is currently underway, is planned to open this year. Uzbekistan should finish in June, and Kazakhstan in August. If these points are put into operation, the volume of cargo transportation passing here will increase three times,” Farkhod Allamjonov, a representative of the Customs Committee, said.
According to him, the renovation of another border checkpoint, Gishtkuprik, is planned to be completed in August. As a result of modernization, the checkpoint capacity will increase from 30 to 50 thousand passengers and from 1 to 3 thousand cars per day.
Moreover, the modernization of the Gishtkuprik customs point will make it possible to simultaneously inspect 12 cars and 9 buses at customs.
In turn, representative of the Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Slyamov noted that the reconstruction of the Zhibek Zholy checkpoint will be completed in 2025, as a result of which the throughput capacity will reach 35 thousand people per day. The Kazakh side is currently carrying out repairs at the Kazygurt, Atameken and Kaplanbek customs posts, which will be completed this year.
