On March 5, Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed resolutions on the construction of two wind power plants. The documents were published in the Lex.uz database.

Future wind farms are being built through investments from ACWA Power in Karakalpakstan and Bukhara region. The Saudi company entered into agreements on their creation in November 2023, at the same time the company’s thermal power plant began operating in the Syrdarya region.

The capacity of the wind farm in the Gijduvan district (Bukhara region) will be 300 MW. The power plant near Kungrad will be designed for 500 MW.

The total amount of investment that ACWA Power undertakes to attract to both projects will be $1.085 billion. Of this, $682 million will be spent on the construction of a wind farm in Gijduvan, and the rest in Kungrad.

The project companies ACWA Power Gijduvan Wind and ACWA Power KRPK Wind will be guaranteed to supply electricity to consumers for 25 years. They provided bank guarantees for $29 million as collateral.

In addition to wind farms, the subsidiaries of the Saudi company will have to provide overhead power lines to be included in the general network. JSC National Electric Grids undertakes to cover the costs of these needs within a ten-year period.

ACWA Power is working on a range of energy projects in Uzbekistan. Thus, in Karakalpakstan, with its participation, two wind power plants with a capacity of 1.5 GW and 100 MW are currently being built.

In the Peshku and Gijduvan districts (Bukhara region), work is underway to create wind farms of 500 MW each. The first stage of both projects should be operational by the end of this year.

The company is also working on photovoltaic power plants in the Tashkent and Samarkand regions. In addition, it is investing in a green hydrogen plant in Chirchik and has involved PowerChina in its construction.
