“Humo Air broke the law in canceling flights” – Competition Committee

Low-cost carrier Humo Air was found to have violated consumer rights by canceling 284 flights and not refunding ticket money on time. According to the Competition Committee, the airline company has resolved 2,000 of the 3,000 complaints received, and 1.5 billion soums have been returned to customers.

Humo Air violated the Consumer Protection Act by canceling flights and failing to refund customers on time. This was reported by the Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights.

According to the committee, 284 flights were canceled by “Humo Air” LLC in 2024, and passengers who bought air tickets were not refunded on time.

Thus, the airline violated the requirements of Articles 19 and 21 of the Law “On Protection of Consumer Rights”, the official information reads.

Article 19 of this law stipulates that performers must provide their services within the specified period, volume and quality, and Article 21 states that it is not possible to charge for services not provided.

It was reported that Humo Air received appeals from 3,000 consumers, of which 2,000 appeals have been satisfied to date, and 1 billion 500 million soums paid for air tickets have been returned to consumers.

“Also, at the request of 6 consumers, the airline bought tickets from another airline for 7 million 498 thousand 758 soums at its own expense. The airline is taking measures to refund the money to the remaining passengers whose flight was not completed,” the consumer rights protection body stated.

The Competition Commission has announced that it has established controls on full refunds to consumers for unused air tickets.

On February 29, low-cost carrier Humo Air announced that it will stop domestic flights from March 10. The reason for this is that the airline, which was originally established for domestic flights, decided to move to the market of international flights.
