Uzbekistan and Latvia discuss issues of cooperation in ensuring gender equality and expanding women’s rights
Diplomats of Uzbekistan met with the head of the Latvian center “Marta Centrs” for the protection of women’s rights and interests, Iluta Latse.
The head of the center especially emphasized the historical nature of the large-scale reforms carried out in Uzbekistan in recent years in the field of socio-economic sphere, protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens, including gender equality.
The center is interested in further developing cooperation with public organizations of Uzbekistan and is working to attract grant funds for the implementation of projects in the social sphere. In particular, in April 2018, the implementation of the next EU-funded project “Safe and free life for women of Uzbekistan” began with the Committee of Family and Women of Uzbekistan and other organizations.
The goal of this project is to develop ways to respect women’s rights and to assist in the implementation of the law adopted in Uzbekistan on the elimination of violence against women.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on the further development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and “Marta Centrs”, as well as attracting grants aimed at implementing new projects in the socio-economic sphere.
