Gov’t plans to introduce separate energy consumption metering for electric filling stations 

For refueling electric cars, it is planned to introduce separate metering of electricity consumption. First Deputy Head of Regional Electric Networks Anvar Gaybullayev announced this at a press conference on July 11, Spot correspondent reports.

“There are more and more electric cars. For this electric charging station, people are asking to open additional personal accounts. Citizens want to use electricity separately for their household needs and separately for refueling electric vehicles. We have problems opening personal accounts in Tashkent and Samarkand,” the official said.

According to him, now consumers are connecting to other transformers due to the lack of free energy capacity to which their smart meter is not connected. Then “Regional Electric Grids” does not receive consumption data, but the state company made a proposal to solve the problem.

Gaybullayev said that work is currently underway to refuel electric vehicles, but the difficulty of supplying electricity depends not only on opening an account.

“We have to expand all the equipment in the entire system, right down to the wires. Why do citizens who have installed charging stations in their yards experience heating and burning wires when charging electric vehicles? Why did cables in high-rise buildings catch fire during abnormally cold weather last year? In our houses built in the 70s and 80s, the wiring was designed for only one TV and refrigerator, which was correct for that time,” he explained.

Design institutes are instructed to replace outdated wires and take into account the cross-section of wires on large lines for the installation of electric charging stations.

Also, a representative of Regional Electric Grids said that charging stations can be classified as group II consumers and a tariff set at 900 UZS per 1 kW/h. The official allowed the new order to be launched this year.

In May, the Ministry of Energy announced a simplification of the procedures required for the installation of electric filling stations. The departmental decree obliges Regional Electric Grids and Uzenergoinspeksiya to coordinate their connection a month in advance.

According to Tashkent Invest, in October 2023, there were 73 charging stations in the capital – this equates to 2.5 stations per 100 thousand people. At the same time, the number of electric cars and hybrids in Tashkent increased 10 times over the year, approaching 19 thousand units.

In June, the president announced the introduction of a special night tariff for charging electric vehicles. It is planned to allow the installation of electric charging stations with a capacity of up to 22 kW in high-rise buildings, and in private houses – up to 7 kW.
