Uzbekistan team disqualified from 2024 International Biology Olympiad due to rule violation
Uzbekistan has been removed from the list of IBO member states.
It was revealed that the Uzbekistan team was disqualified from the International Biology Olympiad held in Astana, Kazakhstan, from July 7-14.
The reason for this was that a teacher from the academic lyceum at Jizzakh State Pedagogical University assisted a student. As a result, the IBO Board of Directors decided to nullify the entire team's results and disqualify the Uzbek delegation from the Olympiad (the Uzbekistan team consisted of 4 participants).
Following the incident, Uzbekistan might also have been removed from the list of IBO member states. This is because Uzbekistan's name has been left in question on the members' map on the official International Biology Olympiad website.
The Ministry of Preschool and School Education stated that "the participation of the Uzbekistan team in next year's Olympiad has not yet been determined."
It was emphasized that a concrete decision on this matter will be made during the invitation process for the 2025 Olympiad.
"The Ministry of Preschool and School Education is working to ensure the participation of our students in prestigious international Olympiads," the ministry commented.
It should be noted that Uzbekistan has been participating in the International Biology Olympiad since 1997. This year’s Olympiad was reported to have over 320 students from more than 80 countries.
