Paris-2024: Uzbekistan plays draw with Dominican Republic, bids farewell to the tournament
The Uzbekistan Olympic team earned its first-ever point in Olympic history in the 3rd round of the group stage at the Paris-2024 Olympics, subsequently ending its participation in the tournament.
Timur Kapadze’s team lost their chances of advancing past the group stage after losing the first two matches against Spain (1:2) and Egypt (0:1).
In the 51st minute of the match, the opponent’s forward Núñez opened the scoring after Abduqodir Husainov’s foul inside the penalty area. However, in the 58th minute, substitute Eldor Shomurodov assisted Alisher Odilov, who equalized the score – 1:1.
The result remained unchanged until the end of the game, and the Uzbekistan Olympic team earned its first point in the history of the tournament, finishing in 4th place in the group and concluding its participation in the tournament.
In the other group match, Spain lost to Egypt, securing the 2nd place in the group and advancing to the playoffs.
