President Mirziyoyev criticizes drainage system in Tashkent, calls for urgent improvements
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the state of Tashkent’s drainage system, particularly after recent heavy rains exposed significant shortcomings. During a video conference focused on the progress of the national "Green Space" initiative, the president emphasized the need for swift and comprehensive improvements to the city's infrastructure.

Mirziyoyev pointed out that the recent downpour revealed the system's inefficiencies, stating that Tashkent district leaders must take direct responsibility for addressing issues related to drainage, greenery, and beautification. Mirziyoyev instructed city officials to be hands-on and resolve these problems themselves, rather than delegating them.
The Tashkent city administration was tasked with developing a master plan by the end of the year, which would include the construction of a comprehensive drainage system supported by artificial reservoirs. The water collected from these reservoirs, the president suggested, could be used for irrigating trees and other greenery, helping to address both the drainage issue and urban environmental concerns.
In addition to the drainage issues, the president raised concerns about the increasing number of diseased trees in the capital. He reiterated that simply fixing the drainage system was not enough, urging for an integrated approach that includes water collection and environmental sustainability.
This is not the first time President Mirziyoyev has addressed this matter. In a previous meeting held in January, he called on the city administration to identify and resolve the most problematic areas in the drainage system by September 1, and to develop a master plan for the system’s overall improvement.
