President Mirziyoyev welcomes OSCE mission head amid pre-election preparations

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met today with Douglas Wake, head of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Election Observation Mission, as the country prepares for its upcoming parliamentary elections. The meeting involved a detailed exchange of views on election preparations, according to the presidential press service.

Both parties expressed satisfaction with Uzbekistanā€™s constructive dialogue and cooperation with the OSCE and its institutions, particularly with the ODIHR. The mission's proactive role in assisting election preparations was commended, highlighting the contributions ODIHR experts made in enhancing Uzbekistanā€™s national electoral system. The country has incorporated many of the bureauā€™s recommendations into its legislation.

Wake extended his gratitude for the support given to the ODIHR mission, praising Uzbekistanā€™s ongoing democratic and socio-economic reforms, which align with the vision of a ā€œNew Uzbekistan.ā€

The upcoming parliamentary elections will be held under the newly amended Uzbek Constitution, which introduces a mixed electoral system aimed at strengthening the roles of parliament and local representative bodies.
