Unemployment rate in Uzbekistan drops to 5.8%
The Ministry of Labor has announced a significant decrease in the unemployment rate among the working-age population, which has dropped by 1 percentage point from the beginning of the year, now standing at 5.8%.
As of July 1, 2024, Uzbekistan's population stood at 37.2 million, with 15.8 million people, or 41% of the total, classified as economically active. Among these, approximately 14.2 million individuals, accounting for 94% of the economically active population, are employed across various sectors of the economy. Specifically, 6.8 million are engaged in the official sector, while 5.5 million work in the informal economy. Additionally, around 1.9 million Uzbekistanis are employed abroad.
Currently, there are 876,000 individuals seeking employment in the country, a notable reduction from the 1.02 million reported at the beginning of the year. This decline reflects ongoing efforts to improve job opportunities and support economic growth in Uzbekistan.
The reduction in the unemployment rate is a positive sign for the country's labor market, suggesting an upward trend in employment and economic activity.
