It has been confirmed that three additional people have died following an explosion at a gas station in Fergana. The regional Department of Internal Affairs confirmed this information via its press service.
A criminal investigation has been launched into the incident.
According to reports, on December 17, at around 1:45 PM, a propane gas leak occurred during the refueling of a 5-cubic-meter container at the Petrolium filling station in the Yangiyul district of Fergana. The leak led to an explosion and fire.
As a result of the explosion, one person died at the scene, and several others sustained various degrees of injury. Despite receiving medical treatment, three of the injured later died in the hospital.
A criminal case has been opened by the Fergana regional Department of Internal Affairs under Article 257 (Violation of Labor Protection Rules) Part 2, Subpart "a", and Article 259 (Violation of Fire Safety Rules) Part 2, Subpart "a" of the Criminal Code.
Currently, five individuals have been arrested in connection with the case. Relevant forensic examinations have been ordered, and investigations are ongoing.
Local residents, speaking to Kun.uz, revealed that there had been previous public opposition to the construction of the gas station. However, the authorities did not heed these concerns.
"People had objected to the construction of this gas station. It’s in the center of the city. These kinds of stations should be located at least 2-3 kilometers outside the city, on the outskirts. There was gasoline here, but the propane installation was only opened three months ago. Despite people warning that it was dangerous, no one listened. Now, a person has died, and others have been injured," one of the witnesses told Kun.uz.
The press service of the regional Emergency Situations Department reported that as a result of the explosion, one person was killed, four others were injured, and eight more are under medical supervision.
