Uzbekistan sees 18% surge in the number of individual entrepreneurs in 2024

In 2024, the number of individual entrepreneurs (IE) in Uzbekistan rose by nearly 18%, with the number of new registrations for individual enterprises surging by over 50%, and Andijan leading the growth at +52.1%, according to the press service of the Tax Committee.

As of January 1, 2025, there were 283.6 thousand active IEs in the country, marking a 17.91% increase compared to 2023. Nearly 83% of these entrepreneurs are taxpayers under the fixed income tax regime, 16.2% pay turnover tax, and 0.9% are VAT payers.

The pace of new registrations grew by more than 50%, jumping from 97 thousand last year to 148.7 thousand new IEs in 2024.

The majority of individual entrepreneurs are involved in retail trade, which accounts for around half of all IEs. In 2024, the number of entrepreneurs in the retail sector increased by 14.2%, reaching 134.9 thousand.

The crafts sector saw a growth of 6.2% (23.6 thousand units), household services grew by 39% (29.4 thousand units), and other sectors expanded by 21% (95.8 thousand units).

Tashkent continues to lead in the number of active IEs, with 38.7 thousand units (+13.8%). It is followed by Samarkand (30.4 thousand, +11%), Tashkent region (26.75 thousand, +12.6%), and Andijan (26.47 thousand, +52.1%) and Fergana (27.3 thousand, +16.1%) regions.

Additionally, the number of women opening IEs increased by nearly 18 thousand, reaching 121.3 thousand. However, their share slightly decreased in 2024, from 43% to 42.7%. The number of men working as individual entrepreneurs grew by 18.6%, exceeding 162 thousand.
