“Assistance will be provided regardless of location” – MFA on deportation of Uzbeks from the U.S.
Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been closely cooperating with relevant U.S. law enforcement agencies to ensure the safe deportation of Uzbek citizens residing in the country illegally.

According to Ahror Burhonov, the ministry’s spokesperson, Uzbekistan’s Embassy in Washington and its Consulate General in New York have been working for many years with U.S. authorities to facilitate the safe return of Uzbek nationals. Under existing agreements, U.S. officials promptly notify the Uzbek side about each deportation case. As per established procedures, deported citizens return to Uzbekistan via the New York-Tashkent route.
“We are monitoring reports in the media suggesting that Uzbek citizens may be deported to third countries. Our diplomatic missions have formally requested U.S. authorities to provide information on any such cases. In addition, we have also established diplomatic communication channels with Latin American countries on this matter,” the spokesperson stated.
According to The New York Times, citing the Costa Rican presidential administration, Costa Rica has agreed to accept 200 deportees from the U.S., including citizens of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, and India.
“Our diplomatic missions provide comprehensive assistance to all Uzbek citizens, regardless of their location,” Ahror Burhonov said in an interview with Dunyo news agency.
U.S. to deport over 970 Uzbek citizens
A total of 975 Uzbek nationals are set to be deported from the U.S., according to a November 2024 report from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In total, 1,445,549 foreign nationals from various countries are scheduled for deportation. These individuals have not been detained, but final deportation orders have been issued.
Among Central Asian nations, the deportation list also includes citizens of Kazakhstan (369), Kyrgyzstan (319), Tajikistan (149), and Turkmenistan (40).
